The Non-Woven Industry: A High Technical Textiles Technology Sunrise Sector

The worldwide nonwoven industry has grown steadily at about 7.5% per annum in tonnage in the last decade. The global Non-Woven Fabric market size is projected to reach USD 35780 Million by 2026, from USD 31220 Million in 2020, at a CAGR of 2.3% during 2021-2026.  While the nonwoven industries growth in North America, Europe and Japan has slowed with maturity, these countries are still growing at 5% per annum.
A significant portion of worldwide nonwoven expansion is due to the rising demand for these materials as emerging economies like Asia expands. India is one of the key players contributing to this growth. Major factors driving the growth of the Non-Woven fabric market size are increasing demand for personal hygiene products coupled with the rise in birth rate and increase in the geriatric population in western countries.
NonWoven is a high technology sunrise sector which is steadily gaining ground in India. Technical textiles are functional fabrics that have applications across various industries including automobiles, civil engineering and construction, agriculture, healthcare, industrial safety, personal protection etc. The estimated market size of technical textiles by 2020-21 in India is Rs. 2,00,000 Crore.
According to InvestIndia, the technical textiles industry accounted for nearly 13% of the overall textile and apparel revenue in India and contributes 0.7% to India’s GDP. As the use of technical textiles in India is still only 5-10%, compared to 30-70% in some advanced countries, there is a huge potential to meet a significant demand gap.
India is developing as a significant player in the Non-Woven segment. India has become a crucial market for Non-Woven technical textile products because of the rapid economic growth that has led to higher disposable income and the development of infrastructure. Moreover, because of its technological and professional workforce, as well as the growing availability of raw materials, India has gained a firm foothold in the production of Non Wovens.
